The economic crisis that occurred as a consequence of the fall in the value of the domestic currency vis-á-vis the US dollar has the potential to deteriorate into a political crisis. The People's Consultative Assembly currently convening, which is certain to reelect Soeharto as the president for another term (7th), has major political implications for migrant workers except quick solutions to the current crisis. If, after the ongoing Consultative Assembly, President Soeharto and the new cabinet fail to control the crisis.
